FAQ| Bedford

I live near the Embankment or Cardington Road. Does flood risk affect a solar installation?

Flood risk is not a permitted development condition for panels on a house's roof, but it does decide where the equipment goes. The Environment Agency runs three River Great Ouse flood warning areas at Bedford. The low-lying one names Marina Court, the brewery on Havelock Street, St Paul's Square, Duckmill Lane, Priory Marina and Castle Mill. The next adds Palgrave Road, Cauldwell Street, Heron Quay, Riverside Square, Kingsway, Cardington Road and Kingsbrook Road; the wider one adds Paddlers Court, Woodstock Road, Nelson Street, Greyfriars and Tennyson Road. If your address is on one of those lists, or has flooded before, tell us and we will agree positions for the inverter, isolators and any battery clear of the lowest ground.
