FAQ| Bedford

How much electricity will solar panels generate in Bedford?

PVGIS, the European Commission's solar model, estimates about 1,031kWh a year per kWp for a south-facing roof at a 35-degree pitch at the MK40 centroid, using PVGIS-SARAH3 data for 2005 to 2023 and 14% system losses. Facing east the same roof is modelled at about 818kWh per kWp and facing west about 799kWh, so an east or west slope is roughly four-fifths of a south one. Ten AIKO 485W panels (4.85kWp) facing south would be modelled at roughly 5,000kWh a year. The seasonal swing is wide: about 124kWh per kWp in July against about 36kWh in December. PVGIS does not model trees or nearby buildings, so we check shading on site.
