Does Luton Airport affect solar installations?

London Luton Airport's safeguarding team looks at developments within 15km of the middle of its runway and gives large banks of solar panels as an example of something that can interfere with radar. Aerodromes are consulted through the planning process, and panels on the roof of an unlisted house within the permitted development limits need no planning application; Part 14's safeguarded-land restriction applies to wind turbines, not solar panels. Solar projects that do need planning permission may be asked for a glint and glare assessment, and CAA guidance says changes to panel tilt, panel type and elevation angle can often alleviate glint and glare concerns.
