FAQ| Hertford

Do you work with East Herts District Council?

East Hertfordshire District Council is the planning authority for Hertford. A house installation that falls within permitted development needs no planning application. Some jobs do need one: planning permission and listed building consent for a listed home, prior approval for a flat-roof array in the conservation area, or planning permission where an Article 4 Direction removes the relevant rights. Those applications go to East Herts with details of the panel layout and equipment, so ask your installer what they will supply. The council adopted its Hertford Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan in March 2017, and it is worth reading the section covering your street before you apply.
