Are Hoddesdon's older clay tile and slate roofs suitable for solar?

Often, but the roof covering decides how the panels are fixed, so we check it at survey. The council's 2011 conservation area appraisal describes roofs in Hoddesdon's historic core as mostly simple steep pitches with gable ends. They are a mix of clay tile, which is predominant, and natural slate, with some old handmade clay tiles. The appraisal also notes that trees are significant, especially in the southern part of the conservation area. PVGIS, which we use for yield estimates, allows for shading from hills and terrain but not from nearby trees or buildings. So we assess shading on site, and we confirm whether a building is listed before proposing any work.
